Synopsis
Shortcomings (2023) is an indie comedy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Randall Park and adapted from Adrian Tomine's graphic novel. Justin H. Min plays Ben, an arthouse cinema manager in Berkeley with firm opinions about film and almost no insight into his own behavior.
His girlfriend Miko (Ally Maki) leaves for a three-month internship in New York, and Ben treats this less as a test and more as permission. His best friend Alice (Sherry Cola) is the one who follows him around, calls him out, and gets mostly ignored. Debby Ryan, Stephanie Hsu, and Sonoya Mizuno each appear in roles that reveal something about Ben that he can't see himself. Park keeps the tone dry and specific — it's a character study that earns its comedy without softening the portrait or letting Ben off easy. Stream it on iFILM.
