Synopsis
Made in Abyss (メイドインアビス, 2017), Season 1 — 13 episodes, watch online on iFILM. Riko is an orphan who grew up at the edge of the Abyss, a fathomless pit that swallows explorers and spits out relics no living craftsperson can replicate. Her mother descended and never came back.
After discovering a robot boy with no memories at the first layer's edge, Riko names him Reg and drags him into an unsanctioned descent. Layer two means an encounter with Ozen the Immovable, a veteran White Whistle who rescued Riko as an infant and offers no warmth in exchange. Ozen tells her some uncomfortable truths about her own origin, runs them through a brutal survival test, then lets them go. The third layer throws flying predators at them without pause. On the fourth, a venomous creature nearly kills Riko — and the creature Nanachi, who steps in to save her, has a clearer account of what the Curse of the Abyss actually does to people than any guidebook provides.
