Synopsis
Sunset Song (2015) is Terence Davies' period drama, free to watch online on iFILM. On a hard-scrabble farm in northeast Scotland, just before the Great War, a farmer's daughter named Chris Guthrie grows up torn between the land and the life she imagines beyond it.
Her mother gone too soon, Chris is left under the thumb of her brutal father John (Peter Mullan), running the household while barely more than a girl. Love arrives, then marriage and a child. Then 1914 pulls the men off to France and nothing in the parish stays the same. Agyness Deyn carries it all in close-up, often without a word.
Davies adapted Lewis Grassic Gibbon's 1932 novel, a cornerstone of Scottish writing, and chased the painterly light and slow, held shots he's known for. This is quiet, unhurried cinema where the landscape speaks as loudly as the cast. Stream Sunset Song online on iFILM.
