Season 1
His religion is revolution.
Synopsis
The Young Pope (2016), Season 1 — ten episodes, watch online on iFILM. An HBO and Sky Atlantic co-production directed by Paolo Sorrentino, which means the Vatican here feels like a Baroque opera rather than a civics lesson.
Lenny Belardo — Jude Law — becomes Pope Pius XIII, the youngest and first American pontiff in Church history, and begins dismantling expectations from day one. Hard-right theology, near-total invisibility to the public, zero patience for the political machinery that elected him. Cardinal Voiello (Silvio Orlando) starts scheming almost immediately. Sister Mary (Diane Keaton), who raised the orphaned Lenny, has moved into the Vatican and brought her own agenda with her. Underneath the provocations runs a quieter thread: a man abandoned as a child who never found his parents — and whether someone carrying that wound actually believes what he preaches is a question the season keeps circling without answering.
Sorrentino builds slowly and deliberately, more images than explanations. Stream The Young Pope Season 1 online on iFILM.
