Magic Knight Rayearth (Seasons 1–2)

Magic Knight Rayearth (魔法騎士レイアース, 1994) is a Japanese anime series you can watch online on iFILM, based on CLAMP's iconic manga of the same name. During a school trip to Tokyo Tower, three eighth-graders — Hikaru, Umi, and Fuu — are suddenly transported to the fantasy realm of Cephiro.

Cephiro runs on willpower and magic, but its ruling princess Emeraude has been captured by the sorcerer Zagato, and the world is starting to unravel without her. The wizard Clef tells the girls they were summoned for a reason: they are the prophesied Magic Knights, destined to find three legendary elemental guardians and break the princess free. None of them signed up for this.

Directed by Hitoyuki Matsui and Koichi Chigira and produced by TMS Entertainment, the show grafted giant mecha onto the magical girl formula — an unusual combination that earns its payoff in a final arc darker than most fans expected. Stream Magic Knight Rayearth online on iFILM.
