Synopsis
Don't Drink the Water (1994) is a Woody Allen farce you can watch online on iFILM. Allen wrote, directed and starred in this TV adaptation of his own stage play. The setting: an early-1960s Cold War backwater somewhere behind the Iron Curtain, where New York caterer Walter Hollander snaps a photo of a sunset over the wrong stretch of restricted ground.
That one click turns the vacationing Hollanders into suspected spies overnight. To dodge arrest they barricade themselves inside the American Embassy — currently run by Axel, the ambassador's well-meaning but hopeless son, who treats diplomacy like a series of small disasters. Michael J. Fox plays Axel with goofy charm, backed by Julia Kavner, Dom DeLuise and a young Mayim Bialik. This one sits in the minor corner of Allen's catalogue, but it's a breezy door-slamming comedy built on old-fashioned wordplay rather than spectacle.
