Synopsis
The Red Squirrel (La ardilla roja, 1993) is a Spanish drama you can watch online on iFILM. A musician named Jota stands on a bridge in San Sebastián, ready to end it all. Then a motorcycle flies off the road and crashes onto the riverbank below.
The rider survives, but she has lost her memory. Jota pulls her to safety and makes a quick, reckless decision: he tells her they are lovers with a shared past. He gives her a name, Lisa, and brings her to a campsite called The Red Squirrel. The invented romance feels like a private game until pieces of her real life start surfacing — and a dangerous man who seems to be hunting her surfaces too. Emma Suárez plays the woman whose blank slate refuses to stay blank.
Director Julio Medem turns a simple rescue into a puzzle about memory, control and the stories we tell to trap each other. His camera prowls, the score hums with unease, and tenderness keeps curdling into menace. Best for viewers who like their love stories laced with paranoia.
