Son in Law

Son in Law (1993) is a broad American comedy directed by Steve Rash — stream it online on iFILM. Pauly Shore plays Crawl, a loud California party guy who ends up spending Thanksgiving with the last family on Earth that would choose him: a conservative farm household in South Dakota.

Carla Gugino is Rebecca, a small-town girl who moves to Los Angeles for college and feels completely lost until Crawl shows her how to stop worrying about fitting in. When she brings him home for the holidays and introduces him as her fiancé — strictly as a cover story — the Warren family's reaction is exactly what you'd expect: bewilderment, barely concealed horror, and slowly, reluctant warmth. Brendan Fraser and Tiffani-Amber Thiessen appear in supporting roles.

This is a fish-out-of-water comedy that doesn't pretend to be anything else, and that's genuinely its strength. Shore's brand of chaotic energy either lands or it doesn't — here it does, largely because the film gives the farm family enough screen time to feel like real people reacting to something truly absurd.
