Synopsis
Finding Altamira (2016) is Hugh Hudson's historical drama you can watch online on iFILM. In northern Spain in 1879, amateur archaeologist Marcelino de Sautuola and his nine-year-old daughter Maria spot painted bison on a cave ceiling — images thousands of years old.
The find should have made his name. Instead it ruined him. The scientific establishment refuses to believe Stone Age people could create such art and brands him a forger. Antonio Banderas plays the stubborn discoverer who loses his standing but never his conviction; Golshifteh Farahani is his devout wife, caught between her husband and the Church, with Rupert Everett as his sharpest academic rival.
From the director of Chariots of Fire, it's a story about the price of being right too soon — a man vindicated only a century after he was mocked. The cave near Santander, its ceiling now called the Sistine Chapel of prehistoric art, went unrecognized in his lifetime. A quiet, handsomely mounted period piece for anyone drawn to the history of science. Stream Finding Altamira online on iFILM.
