Synopsis
Poltergay (2006) is a French comedy you can watch online on iFILM. Director Eric Lavaine builds the whole film on a single premise: Marc and Emma move into their dream house with no idea the basement was a gay discotheque — until a fire there in April 1979 killed five clubbers who still haven't moved on. Decades later, they're still dancing.
Marc can see them. Emma can't. From her perspective, her husband has started talking to empty rooms and spontaneously breaking into Boney M routines. Clovis Cornillac plays Marc with the specific exhaustion of a man who is definitely not losing his mind but cannot produce a single piece of evidence. Julie Depardieu is Emma — patient, then less so.
There's not one scare in 93 minutes, but as a one-joke comedy that fully commits to its absurd internal logic, it earns laughs the old-fashioned way. Stream Poltergay (2006) online on iFILM.
