Synopsis

"The Red Tent" (1969) — watch online on iFILM. Director Mikhail Kalatozov's Soviet-Italian historical drama revisits the 1928 crash of the airship Italia in the Arctic. Italian General Umberto Nobile (Peter Finch) survived, but his crew did not all make it — and decades later, their ghosts put him on trial in his own memory.

Amundsen (Sean Connery), the meteorologist, the doctor, the dead: each appears to question the choices Nobile made on that ice floe. Claudia Cardinale, Hardy Krüger, and a young Nikita Mikhalkov complete an international cast that bridges two continents. The tagline said it plainly: "Forget everything you've ever heard about heroes."

Kalatozov — the director behind "The Cranes Are Flying" — built the film around guilt rather than survival. At 159 minutes it rewards patience: the questions it raises have no clean answers. Stream "The Red Tent" (1969) online on iFILM.
