Synopsis

Back home, being Maxwell's wife and being treated as his wife turn out to be different things. The late Sara's parents contest Fran's adoption of the children; Maxwell floats a move to California for a new TV project; and the season turns on a long-awaited question about whether the Sheffield household is about to get bigger — the road there is not straight. Niles finally works up the nerve to propose to C.C. It does not go well. Maggie gets married. The finale pulls every loose thread into a single location: an elevator, going nowhere fast.
