Synopsis
Titanic (1996), Season 1 is a two-part CBS historical drama you can watch online on iFILM, retelling the 1912 disaster aboard the most lavish liner ever launched. Robert Lieberman directed the miniseries.
Rather than follow a single romance, the story threads several lives at once. A young aristocrat played by Catherine Zeta-Jones is fleeing a marriage she never chose; a pickpocket works the lower decks; wealthy families and nameless emigrants share the same doomed voyage. Part one takes its time, letting these passengers cross paths while the crew trusts the ship cannot sink. Part two breaks that faith in one night of ice, too few lifeboats, and a class divide that collapses along with the decks.
This was the first screen version to show the hull splitting in two. George C. Scott and Tim Curry give the cast its gravity. It is plainer than the blockbuster that followed a year later, yet it walks the whole ship, from bridge to boiler room. Stream Titanic Season 1 online on iFILM.

The saga of H.M.S. Titanic is one of "if only..."If only the designers, builders & owners hadn't bought into the myth of her being unsinkable. If only the chairman of the White Star Line hadn't decided to break the trans-Atlantic crossing record by increasing the Titanic's speed to a dangerous 22-plus knots. If only the Titanic had been adequately supplied with lifeboats. In fact there were places for only 1,200 people, although 2,228 passengers & crew were aboard.
