They like each other. Neither will say so. Whoever confesses first loses, by the logic they've both quietly agreed on, so every shared moment — a lift home, an offhand question, a school event — becomes a carefully engineered trap. Each episode frames one or two skirmishes with mock-military narration and courtroom seriousness applied to things like whether to eat a strawberry in front of each other. The show is funnier for how completely both characters commit to the bit, and smarter than it looks about pride, class, and why smart people make simple things hard.
