Synopsis
The Story of My Wife (A feleségem története, 2021) is a slow-burning romantic drama you can watch online on iFILM, from Hungarian director Ildikó Enyedi. Sea captain Jakob Störr makes an idle bet that he'll marry the first woman to walk into the café — and in walks a Frenchwoman named Lizzy.
What follows is nearly three hours on how jealousy hollows a man out. Lizzy is charming, restless and never quite the faithful wife Jakob imagined; a man used to commanding a ship, he can steer neither her nor his own suspicion. Léa Seydoux plays the unknowable wife, Gijs Naber the husband unsure whether he dreads betrayal or its absence more, with Louis Garrel as the third point of the triangle.
Adapting Milán Füst's novel, Enyedi (On Body and Soul) builds a sumptuous 1920s world of steamships and Paris salons where almost everything stays unsaid. Long, unhurried and not for everyone — but ideal if you love grand European cinema about never truly knowing the person beside you. Stream The Story of My Wife (2021) online on iFILM.
