Synopsis
Swallows and Amazons (2016) is a British family adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Bored on a lakeside summer holiday, four children beg their mother to let them sail off on their own and camp on an island in the middle of the water. Permission granted, they set off triumphant — only to find the island already has visitors.
Directed by Philippa Lowthorpe, the film adapts Arthur Ransome's beloved 1930 children's novel. The kids play castaways and pirates, square off against the scrappy "Amazons" over who owns the island, and stumble into a grown-up plot when a mysterious guest named Jim Turner (Rafe Spall) turns out to be a man someone is hunting for real. Kelly Macdonald and Andrew Scott round out the cast.
It's warm without turning syrupy: Lake District scenery, sailing races, squabbles and truces, and a first taste of looking after yourself and the younger ones. A proper watch-together film where the adventure quietly teaches the children to hold their nerve. True to its tagline, this is a summer you treasure forever.
