Synopsis
Marvel's 616 (2020) is a documentary anthology you can watch online on iFILM. The title is pulled straight from the comics — Earth-616 is the "main" Marvel universe — but the show barely bothers with caped heroes. Each episode is its own film by its own director, digging into the culture around the company: the people, the ideas, and the habits that turned a comic-book publisher into a piece of pop culture.
The subjects sprawl on purpose. One installment hunts down forgotten and frankly ridiculous characters buried in old issues; another shadows the artists who draw pages by hand against brutal deadlines; a third lives with cosplayers and the fan community; a fourth examines how women and minorities have been drawn across Marvel's history. The directors include David Gelb, Gillian Jacobs, Alison Brie, and Paul Scheer, with archival Stan Lee turning up too.
Eight episodes landed on Disney+ in 2020. This isn't a recap of the movie franchise but a look from the side — at craft, arguments, and the people off-camera. It clicks for anyone more curious about how stories actually get made than about the film timeline. Stream Marvel's 616 online on iFILM.
