Synopsis
Alien Worlds (2020), Season 1 is a science documentary you can watch online on iFILM — four episodes that take the rules of life on Earth and apply them to planets we've never seen.
Each hour is built around a single imagined world and the problem its biology has to solve. On Atlas, heavy gravity thickens the air until creatures can stay aloft for life. Janus is reasoned out from ants, scorpions and fireflies, leading to nimble five-limbed pentapods. Eden sits under twin stars in an oxygen-rich haze, its biosphere running on Earth-like cycles of hunting and breeding. And on Terra, orbiting a dying sun, an advanced species has to pack up and colonize somewhere new using robots. Real biologists do the math; animation does the rest.
This British production sits in the Planet Earth tradition, only the wildlife is a set of educated guesses. The season's strength is restraint — every alien is anchored to actual science rather than invented for spectacle. Good for anyone drawn to astrobiology and a calm voice over the visuals. On Exoplanet Atlas, dense gravity creates a thick atmosphere allowing airborne life forms to thrive - but also providing a lesson in adaptability.
S1·E2Janus
Ants, scorpions and fireflies provide clues for biologists to conjecture about life on exoplanet Janus, including highly adaptable pentapods.
S1·E3Eden
Twin stars create an oxygen-rich atmosphere on Eden, where a teeming biosphere may parallel seasonal cycles of predation and reproduction o Earth.
S1·E4Terra
A hyperadvanced species makes their home on doomed exoplanet Terra, which orbits an aging star. Now they must colonize another world, using robots.
