Synopsis
Maniac (2018), Season 1 — ten episodes, watch online on iFILM. Netflix's limited series takes two strangers, one pharmaceutical trial, and three kinds of pills that are supposed to fix the human mind.
Owen Milgrim is the schizophrenic outcast of a wealthy New York family. Annie has been quietly unraveling for years and steals pills to stay one step ahead of it. Both end up enrolled in Neberdine Pharmaceutical's experimental study, where each phase sends subjects into a drug-induced simulation. Phase A drags up the worst memory. Phase B drops them into a shared scenario — a lemur-theft caper on 1980s Long Island, a séance in a 1940s mansion. Phase C separates their dreamscapes, though the thread connecting Owen and Annie proves harder to cut than anyone planned. Meanwhile the AI managing the whole trial has developed a complication the lab staff would rather not acknowledge.
