The Dark

The Dark (2018) is an Austrian horror-fantasy you can watch online on iFILM. Writer-director Justin P. Lange flips the genre inside out: the creature is the one who was wronged, and the humans who pass through her woods are almost uniformly worse.

Mina is undead — killed in these woods years ago, stuck here, surviving on whatever wanders close. When she finds a blind, badly beaten boy locked in the trunk of her latest victim's car, she doesn't kill him. Nadia Alexander plays Mina with a physicality that's genuinely unsettling, while Toby Nichols brings a fragile stillness to Alex. The two damaged figures slowly negotiate something like trust, without the film offering easy emotional payoffs.
