Synopsis
After the Rain (2000) is a samurai drama by Takashi Koizumi that you can watch online on iFILM. When heavy rain floods the river, a handful of travelers end up stuck in a cheap roadside inn. Among them are the wandering ronin Ihei Misawa and his wife.
Few swordsmen can match Ihei, yet he has never found a place in the world: neither his skill nor his rare gentleness has saved him from poverty. To put food on the table for the stranded guests, he quietly enters illegal prize fights — something that cuts against everything he believes in. Then a passing lord, who senses a kindred spirit in the drifting samurai, offers him a path to honorable service. The catch is whether so honest a man can survive the rules of a feudal court.
The screenplay was the final work of Akira Kurosawa; after the master's death, his longtime assistant Koizumi brought it to the screen. It's a warm, unhurried picture about kindness as a kind of strength, and it was named Best Film at the Japanese Academy Awards. A gentle watch for anyone who loves classic samurai cinema without gratuitous bloodshed. Stream After the Rain (2000) online on iFILM.
