Kaleb hustles stolen sneakers in a run-down Paris suburb and keeps a stash of exotic creatures in his flat. His newest pet — a spider smuggled in from North Africa — slips out of its jar. Within hours the thing has bred, and every fresh generation is bigger and faster than the last. Webs clog the elevator shafts and the vents, a body turns up, and the police seal the whole building under quarantine with the tenants trapped inside. Théo Christine carries the film down claustrophobic stairwells and basements where the dread comes less from gore than from the scratching just behind the wall.
