Synopsis
"Gogol. A Terrible Vengeance" (2018) is the third film in a Russian fantasy-thriller trilogy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Egor Baranov. Alexander Petrov returns as young Nikolai Gogol; Oleg Menshikov is back as the razor-sharp investigator Yakov Guro.
Two hundred years ago a sorcerer laid waste to the villages around Dikanka. Since then a Black Horseman has prowled the roads, taking young women. The next target may be Liza — and to stop him, Gogol must break a curse that has defeated every mortal before him. Guro arrives with a prime suspect already in mind. Baranov built the finale as a folk-horror detective story in which the investigator gradually realizes he is tracking events that his own future writing will one day turn into legend.
The trilogy — "The Beginning," "Viy," and "A Terrible Vengeance" — ran in Russian cinemas through 2017 and 2018. The tagline "Start With The Finale" is meant literally: this closing entry is built to work as a standalone. Stream "Gogol. A Terrible Vengeance" (2018) online on iFILM.
