Leap Year

Leap Year (Año bisiesto, 2010) is a Mexican drama you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Australia-born Michael Rowe. Shot almost entirely inside one Mexico City apartment. Mónica del Carmen plays Laura, a freelance journalist whose days consist of canned food, the neighbor she watches through the window, and men she brings home and sends away.

Laura tells her family her life is fine. It isn't. As a specific date in February draws closer, she begins seeing Arturo (Gustavo Sánchez Parra) — a neighbor whose company turns physically intense and increasingly high-stakes.

Rowe took the Caméra d'Or at Cannes 2010, the prize for best first feature at the festival. Shot cheap and very close, the film tightens around Laura until the apartment feels half its size. Not easy viewing — entirely intentional. Stream Leap Year (2010) online on iFILM.
