Synopsis
The Clink of Ice (Le Bruit des glaçons, 2010) is a French black comedy to watch online on iFILM, written and directed by Bertrand Blier. Jean Dujardin plays Charles Faulque, a writer coasting through a midlife slump at his country estate — good wine, a devoted housekeeper, a young girlfriend — until Albert Dupontel shows up at the door and introduces himself as Charles's cancer.
The premise is played completely straight: the illness takes human form, moves in, and refuses to leave. Anne Alvaro, Audrey Dana, and Christa Théret play the women in Charles's life, each of whom reacts to the intruder differently. The film runs 83 minutes and has no interest in offering comfort.
Blier has made a film that treats death as a houseguest who knows all your secrets and won't stop talking. Dujardin without the grin turns out to be a different kind of actor entirely. Stream The Clink of Ice (2010) online on iFILM.
