Thirteen-year-old Anna is left with a babysitter whose friends talk her into calling up the Queen of Spades — candle, mirror, old incantation, bad outcome. The entity arrives. When life becomes unbearable, the group tracks down a Russian émigré who literally wrote the book on the legend. Ava Preston carries the film as Anna, the only one present who fully grasps how badly the adults around her have miscalculated.
