Synopsis

The Fantastic Four (1967), Season 1 is the Marvel cartoon you can watch online on iFILM — twenty episodes, and the very first animated take on the comic, produced by Hanna-Barbera.

Reed, Sue, Johnny and Ben run their operation out of the Baxter Building, and across the season they work through most of early Marvel's villain roster. Doctor Doom calls them out for a televised duel and vows to tear the heart out of the team. The Mole Man surfaces from below, shape-shifting Skrulls strike from orbit, and late in the run Galactus arrives to devour the planet — this was the screen's first crack at the famous Galactus Trilogy. There's no season-long arc; each episode is its own twenty-minute adventure.

The animation is creaky even by sixties standards, but the scripts stay faithful to the Lee and Kirby stories underneath. This one is for viewers curious about where Marvel on screen began, more than for a modern binge. Stream The Fantastic Four Season 1 online on iFILM.
