Synopsis

Shy, watchful Pauline falls in with Juliet, a sharp-tongued English girl, and their shared love of fantasy and writing turns into a bond neither can let go of. They sculpt a clay realm, trade letters in the voices of invented saints, and dread being kept apart. When the adults decide to separate them, the girls choose a path that ends in tragedy. The film grows out of a real court case that shook the country in 1954.
