The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel
A just-in-timely sequel feature documentary
Synopsis
The New Corporation: The Unfortunately Necessary Sequel (2020) is a Canadian documentary you can watch online on iFILM — a follow-up nobody really wanted to need.
Two decades after Joel Bakan diagnosed the corporation as a "pathological personality," he and co-director Jennifer Abbott return to find the patient running the show. Companies now brand themselves as champions of the climate, of equality, of the common good — while, the film argues, steering society uncomfortably close to a new authoritarianism.
The talking heads range from World Economic Forum founder Klaus Schwab to Seattle socialist Kshama Sawant and Green leader Elizabeth May. Out of those voices the directors build an uneasy portrait of the decade. It wears its politics in the open, and it is sharper for it. Stream The New Corporation (2020) online on iFILM.
