Synopsis
Beyond the Forest (1949) is a drama-thriller directed by King Vidor, available to watch online on iFILM. Bette Davis plays Rosa Moline, a doctor's wife with a permanent contempt for the small mill town she calls home — and she makes no effort to conceal it.
A wealthy Chicago businessman sets up his hunting cabin nearby, and Rosa suddenly has a way out. Her husband Lewis (Joseph Cotten, playing gentle endurance to the hilt) won't give her a divorce. So Rosa stops waiting for permission. The film follows her from restlessness into something far colder — and Davis, in her final Warner Bros. picture, clearly relishes every step of the descent.
The line Rosa hurls at her front door — "What a dump!" — became one of Hollywood's most-quoted exit lines. Stream Beyond the Forest (1949) on iFILM.
