Synopsis

Flowers in the Attic (2014) is a Canadian TV thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Director Deborah Chow adapted V.C. Andrews' notorious 1979 novel — one of the bestselling gothic romances ever published — starring Heather Graham, Kiernan Shipka and Ellen Burstyn.

When their father dies suddenly, four children are brought by their mother Corrine to her wealthy family's mansion. The grandmother decides the kids are a shameful secret and locks them away upstairs. Corrine needs the inheritance; the children need a way out. Weeks bleed into months. Eldest siblings Chris and Cathy hold the younger ones together while slowly piecing together how much their mother has hidden from them.

Shipka delivers a performance that predates her Chilling Adventures of Sabrina breakout — quietly controlled, then desperate. Burstyn's grandmother is frightening precisely because she never raises her voice. The pacing is deliberate and the story goes to uncomfortable places, which is exactly what fans of the book expect.
