Synopsis
Hoops (2020), Season 1 is a Netflix adult animated comedy you can watch online on iFILM — ten episodes following Ben Hopkins (voiced by Jake Johnson), a foul-mouthed high school basketball coach convinced the big leagues are waiting, if he can just drag his hopeless team off the bottom.
The whole season hangs on one obsession: getting Matty, the tallest and clumsiest kid in school, onto the Lenwood Colts and turning him into a star. It goes about as well as you'd expect. Along the way Coach torpedoes Matty's love life, feuds with his ex-wife Shannon — who's now buddies with his own father — flunks an ethics class, bets big against a rival, and melts down in anger-management therapy. By the finale a scout from a prep-school powerhouse shows up to recruit Matty, and Hopkins will do almost anything to keep his one decent player.
The humor is crude and has no brakes — this isn't family animation, it's a mean little comedy about a man who is his own worst enemy. There's only the one season; Netflix didn't renew it. Stream Hoops Season 1 online on iFILM.
