Synopsis
The Message (风声, 2009) is a Chinese wartime spy thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Japanese-occupied Nanjing, 1942. A mole code-named "Phantom" has been feeding the resistance, and the counter-intelligence chief intends to drag him into the light.
Five suspects are driven to an isolated mansion and sealed inside: a code clerk, a decorated officer, a sharp-tongued unit head, an adjutant. Their interrogator sets a deadline — expose the Phantom or every one of them dies. The torture climbs by the hour, yet someone in that house still has to smuggle a single message out without tipping the others off. Zhou Xun, Li Bingbing and Zhang Hanyu play people running out of both time and room to lie.
Directors Chen Kuo-fu and Gao Qunshu build a locked-room whodunit where the closed walls press harder than any blade. It picked up several Golden Rooster and Hundred Flowers prizes back home, including for its lead actresses.
