Ikki Tousen (一騎当千, 2003) is a Japanese action anime directed by Takashi Watanabe — watch it online on iFILM. The premise transplants the Three Kingdoms era of ancient China into modern-day Japan: seven high schools in the Kanto region are locked in a turf war, their fighters carrying magatama stones that hold the souls and destined fates of legendary generals from 1,800 years ago.

Hakufu Sonsaku looks like a cheerful transfer student and hits like a freight train. Behind each fighter lurks a Three Kingdoms figure — who here is Cao Cao, who is Sun Jian — though the show is in no rush to hand out labels.
