Estrella has been granted three wishes, but they don't grant clean endings: chalk drawings crawl to life, the dead whisper from doorways, and a trail of blood follows wherever she goes. López welds street-level drug-war realism to dark folklore, and the seam is what hurts: the scares come less from ghosts than from the plain absence of any adult who can keep these kids safe.
