Synopsis
Tigers Are Not Afraid (Vuelven, 2017) is a Mexican horror-fantasy from director Issa López that you can watch online on iFILM. A nameless city is bleeding out from cartel wars. Ten-year-old Estrella comes home one day to find her mother simply gone.
With nowhere to turn, she falls in with a small pack of orphaned boys hiding on rooftops and in gutted houses. Their leader, Shine, is carrying a phone he stole from the wrong people, and the recordings on it are worth a child's life. Soon the gangsters are hunting all of them. Estrella has been granted three wishes, but they don't grant clean endings: chalk drawings crawl to life, the dead whisper from doorways, and a trail of blood follows wherever she goes. Paola Lara, Juan Ramón López and Tenoch Huerta lead the young cast.
López welds street-level drug-war realism to dark folklore, and the seam is what hurts: the scares come less from ghosts than from the plain absence of any adult who can keep these kids safe. Guillermo del Toro and Stephen King both championed the film, and it swept genre festivals around the world. Eighty-three minutes, no breathing room — built for viewers who want their horror with real grief underneath. Stream Tigers Are Not Afraid (2017) online on iFILM.
