Synopsis

Season 2 of Thomas & Friends (1986) brings the Sodor railway back for twenty-six more episodes you can watch online on iFILM, with the island busier and more crowded than before.

This run is built around newcomers. A tidy, proud engine named Duck arrives, followed by the Scottish twins Donald and Douglas, a sly shunter called Diesel, and a boastful helicopter, Harold. Old Edward gets the chance to prove he still has plenty of work left in him, while Percy keeps landing in trouble through sheer overconfidence. The thread running through the season is the rivalry between steam engines and diesels: Diesel schemes against Duck, the twins cause confusion at every turn, and the calm of the line is well and truly broken. It all wraps up with a snowy Christmas story about a missing tree.

The series still draws on Wilbert Awdry's Railway Series books, and the original narration is once again by Ringo Starr. This season feels a touch livelier than the first — more characters, more small squabbles, the same gentle message about honesty and lending a hand. A good choice for family viewing with little ones.
