Synopsis
Buffalo Boys (2018) is an Indonesian action film you can watch online on iFILM — a genre mash-up that relocates the Western into colonial Southeast Asia. Directed by Mike Wiluan for an Indonesia-Singapore co-production, it is one of the more inventive genre entries to come out of the region in recent years.
The setup: 1860. Brothers Jamar and Suwo have spent years on the American frontier, raised in exile after Dutch colonial forces killed their father, one of the last Indonesian sultans fighting foreign occupation. When the moment arrives, all three return home — and they bring the gunslinging with them. Yoshi Sudarso and Ario Bayu lead the cast opposite Tio Pakusadewo as the villain they have come to face.
The hybrid pays off. The action sequences are punchy, and the colonial setting gives the revenge formula a sharper edge than the premise suggests. Stream Buffalo Boys (2018) online on iFILM.
