Synopsis
"The Mysterious Magician" (Der Hexer, 1964) — watch online on iFILM — is Alfred Vohrer's entry in Rialto Film's long-running German Edgar Wallace series, adapted from the novel "The Ringer."
The Hexer's sister is murdered. Scotland Yard Inspector Higgins (Joachim Fuchsberger) figures the notorious criminal will surface to settle the score, and plans to be there when he does. The trap is set. It doesn't spring the way Higgins expects — bodies pile up and The Hexer slips through again.
Heinz Drache, Sophie Hardy, and Eddi Arent form the series' familiar ensemble, and the balance of tension and dry comic relief is exactly what the format delivered.
