Synopsis
Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson: Bloody Inscription (1980) — watch online on iFILM — is a Soviet detective film by Igor Maslennikov. Holmes is at a low point: shooting at the Baker Street walls out of boredom, with nothing interesting on the table. Then word arrives of a locked, abandoned house on Brixton Road — inside, the body of an elderly American, and on the wall the single word: Revenge.
Inspector Lestrade objects to Holmes's involvement. Holmes involves himself. Vasily Livanov reads the crime scene the way most people skim a headline — fast, confident, and completely right when no one else believes him. Vitaly Solomin's Watson is more than a narrator here; his perspective on Holmes carries real weight. One casting note: Boris Livanov — Vasily's real-life father — appears in a supporting role.
