The Wall

The Wall (Die Wand, 2012) is an Austrian sci-fi drama you can watch online on iFILM. A woman drives up to a mountain hunting lodge for the weekend and wakes to find an invisible barrier sealing her off from everyone else.

Beyond the clear wall the world has stopped — people frozen mid-motion, the road home gone. Alone now, she keeps going with a dog named Lynx, a stray cow and a cat. What follows is survival pared to essentials: firewood, hunting, a planted field, and a diary scrawled on the backs of old calendars to hold off madness. Years pass with no rescue and no explanation.

Julian Pölsler's film rests almost entirely on Martina Gedeck and her voiceover, adapting the 1963 novel by Austrian writer Marlen Haushofer. It's slow, contemplative work about silence, the duty of caring for the living and who a person becomes alone with nature. Skip it if you want action; stay for a quiet reckoning.
