Synopsis
"A Dog of Flanders" (1999) is a family drama directed by Kevin Brodie, available to watch online on iFILM, with John Voight and Jack Warden leading the cast. Young Nello, an orphan living with his grandfather near Antwerp, earns a thin living delivering milk — until they find a badly beaten Bouvier des Flandres and nurse it back to health. The dog becomes Patrasche, named for the boy's late mother.
Nello has one private wish: to become a painter like the mother he never really knew. His closest companion is Aloise, daughter of the town's wealthiest man — but her father wants nothing to do with a penniless orphan. As the odds stack up, Nello holds onto a single dream: to stand inside Antwerp Cathedral and see the Rubens paintings with his own eyes before it's too late.
Based on Ouida's 1872 novella, this story has been filmed in multiple countries across several decades. Each version tests how long an audience can hold on before the weight of it gets to them. Stream "A Dog of Flanders" (1999) on iFILM.
