"Militia Romance" (2025) is a Russian war-and-politics series you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Oleg Lukichev. Autumn, 2014: journalist Alexei Suvorov — played by Alexei Vertkov — travels to Donbass with a humanitarian convoy. The goal is a career-making interview with a celebrated militia commander named Lesentsov, plus material for a German outlet that keeps dangling a staff position in front of him.
The road has other plans. What starts as a reporting trip turns into a sequence of obstacles that are anything but accidental: Suvorov ends up at the intersection of agendas belonging to the militia commander, a Ukrainian colonel, a Novorossiya politician, and a covert NATO unit — none of whom need him in the picture any longer than he's useful. Anton Shagin, Vitaly Kishchenko and Andrei Nazimov flesh out a cast of characters who each carry a different version of the same war.
