War of the Worlds: The Attack

War of the Worlds: The Attack (2023) is a British sci-fi thriller you can watch online on iFILM. Directed by Junaid Syed. Three astronomy students — Herbert, Ogilvie and Hannah — drive out into the British countryside to locate what looks like a meteorite impact.

It isn't a meteorite. What they find is a ship, and it didn't arrive alone. The film updates H.G. Wells' scenario to the present and strips it down: three people, an invading Martian force, and a military that can't stop either. Sam Gittins and Leo Staar carry most of the screen time, and the film earns what tension it has through their performances more than through its effects work.
