Synopsis
Lost in Siberia (1991) is a Soviet-British historical drama directed by Alexander Mitta — watch it online on iFILM. Anthony Andrews leads an international cast that includes Vladimir Ilyin, Valentin Gaft, Zinoviy Gerd, and a young Yevgeny Mironov.
British archaeologist Andrei Miller is working an excavation in postwar Iran when men in plain clothes drag him across the border. No trial, no explanation — just a spy label pinned on him by the security services and a long journey east. He ends up in a Siberian camp surrounded by men whose lives were broken by the same indifferent machinery. Miller doesn't speak Russian, doesn't know the unwritten rules of survival, has nobody on the outside who knows where he is. That outsider's eye is what sets this apart from most Soviet-era Gulag films.
Mitta finished the film in 1991, when such stories could finally reach Soviet screens, and he kept the edges sharp. Stream Lost in Siberia online on iFILM.
