Synopsis
Watch "Hello, I'm Your Aunt!" (1975) online on iFILM — the Soviet comedy classic directed by Viktor Titov, adapted from Brandon Thomas's 1892 stage play "Charley's Aunt." The setup is early twentieth-century England: two young men in love need a respectable chaperone before their sweethearts' families will receive them. The only available candidate is Babs — broke, resourceful, and about to squeeze into a dress.
Alexander Kalyagin's lead performance is the engine of the entire film. He plays a man pretending to be a woman who starts enjoying the part rather more than planned. The supporting cast — Mikhail Kozakov, Armen Dzhigarkhanyan, Valentin Gaft, Tatyana Vasilyeva — fills out what is arguably the most talent-dense comedy ensemble in Soviet film history.
What keeps this 1975 TV production in rotation nearly fifty years on isn't the plot mechanics alone — it's the genuine warmth Kalyagin finds in a role that could easily have been just a running gag. Stream the full film on iFILM.
