Synopsis
Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm (1999) is the hour-long HBO mock-documentary you can watch online on iFILM. Director Robert B. Weide follows Seinfeld co-creator Larry David as he edges back toward stand-up after years away from the stage, prepping a one-off special for the network.
The camera trails Larry through green rooms, restaurants and rehearsals, blurring the staged and the real until you stop trying to tell them apart. Friends and colleagues play heightened versions of themselves — Jerry Seinfeld, Jason Alexander, Jeff Garlin, Richard Lewis all turn up. Cheryl Hines makes her first appearance as Larry's on-screen wife, a role that would soon become a fixture.
This is the seed that grew into one of HBO's most influential comedies, a series that ran for more than two decades. The improvisation is rawer here, but David's gift for turning a small social misstep into a slow-motion disaster is already fully formed. Worth watching as the origin point, before the format hardened into a template. Stream Larry David: Curb Your Enthusiasm online on iFILM.
