Synopsis
The Purple Ball (1988) is a Soviet sci-fi children's fantasy you can watch online on iFILM, directed by Pavel Arsenov. Natalya Guseva returns as Alisa Seleznyova — already a beloved character from Guest from the Future (1985) — in another adventure drawn from Kir Bulychev's future-world stories.
Alisa is traveling through space with her scientist father when they meet their old friend Gromozeka, an eight-armed archaeologist alien with urgent news. He's found the Black Wanderer: a dead spacecraft carrying a lilac-colored ball that turns out to be a slow-fuse chemical bomb. The virus it contains — a pathogen that stokes hostility between people — was seeded on Earth 26,000 years ago and is about to go live. The only way to stop it is a trip back in time to the Epoch of Legends, where Baba Yaga and Koschei the Immortal are the local hazards. The cast includes Alexander Gusev, Vyacheslav Nevinniy, and Boris Shcherbakov.
Guseva carries the film on the same easy confidence she brought to Guest from the Future. The premise works as a fairy tale adventure, but a hostility virus spreading across civilization is quietly serious material for a 77-minute children's film. Watch The Purple Ball online on iFILM.
