Synopsis
Knights of the Teutonic Order (Krzyżacy, 1960) is a Polish historical epic by Aleksander Ford that you can watch online on iFILM. It's a sweeping adaptation of Henryk Sienkiewicz's novel about Poland's struggle with the Teutonic Knights.
The late 14th century, on the border between Poland and the Order's lands. Young knight Zbyszko falls in love and swears a reckless oath to win battle trophies from the Teutonic Knights. Alongside him runs the grief of the knight Jurand, who has had what he loved most torn away by the Order. Private wounds and high politics converge on a single field near Grunwald, where in 1410 the combined Polish-Lithuanian forces meet the Order's army.
Made for the 550th anniversary of the Battle of Grunwald, this was the first Polish widescreen color feature — the crowds, the armor and the climactic clash are staged on a scale rare for its era. Nearly three hours of knightly spectacle for anyone who likes history painted in broad strokes. Stream Knights of the Teutonic Order (1960) online on iFILM.
