Synopsis
Colonel Wolodyjowski (1969) is a Polish historical adventure you can watch online on iFILM. Director Jerzy Hoffman adapted the final chapter of Henryk Sienkiewicz's Trilogy: 1668, veteran swordsman Michał Wołodyjowski leaves the monastery and rides back to the eastern frontier.
The border between Poland and the Ottoman Empire has never been quiet. Tatar raids, Turkish sieges, fortresses on their last legs — Wołodyjowski takes command with his new wife Basia (Magdalena Zawadzka) at his side and old comrades Zagłoba and Ketling watching his back. Tadeusz Łomnicki plays him without swashbuckler posturing, which makes the character land harder than most epic leads do.
Hoffman shot massive cavalry charges and sweeping steppe landscapes that shaped Polish historical cinema for a generation. Daniel Olbrychski and Barbara Brylska appear in supporting roles. Stream Colonel Wolodyjowski (1969) online on iFILM.
