Synopsis

The series picks up as a new fleet rises on the Black Sea, the town of Kherson goes up on an empty bank, the first warship slides off the slipway, and Crimea joins Russia. Behind every shipyard and campaign stands the prince — adviser, favorite and architect of Catherine the Great's ambitious "Greek project." Running alongside the politics is the part the textbooks left out: his secret marriage to the empress and what proximity to the throne costs him.
Ivan Kolesnikov plays Potemkin opposite Anna Kovalchuk as Catherine, with Sergey Shakurov in support. Director Yaroslav Mochalov is less interested in formal portraits than in how private feeling and imperial scale collided inside one man.
